A sharp online debate surrounding actress Ha Young has raised questions about her upcoming project. Criticisms mounted after reports confirmed that her great-grandfather (Dr. An Sang-ho) was listed as a council member of a pro-Japanese organization in 1916. Now, the backlash is affecting her work.
On August 11, SBS issued an official statement regarding the future of the new drama “The Long Shot Trial” (working title), which stars Ha Young alongside lead actor Lee Je Hoon.
Addressing the production’s status, an SBS representative stated: “We have already filmed a significant portion of The Long Shot Trial. We kindly ask for your understanding, as we cannot disclose exact details regarding the amount of footage completed or the current production timeline.”
When pressed about Ha Young’s controversy, the representative added: “We are aware of the issue and are closely monitoring the situation. We will inform the public if any updates arise.”
Planned for a 2027 broadcast, The Long Shot Trial is a legal comedy following a chaotic law firm led by Kwon Baek (Lee Je Hoon), a former lawyer who now works as an office manager. The team uses any means necessary—no matter how unconventional—to overturn unwinnable cases.
Ha Young plays Yeo Shim-hee, a rookie lawyer lacking both money and influential connections. Through relentless hard work, she rises to become the primary attorney at Kwon Baek’s law firm.
