Actress Gong Seung Yeon opened up about her close bond with her younger sister, Jeongyeon of TWICE, during a preview for next week’s episode of You Quiz on the Block.
The preview aired on May 13 and immediately drew attention for its emotional family story. During the clip, Gong Seung Yeon jokingly said, “I bragged to my younger sister about appearing on the show. Even TWICE hasn’t appeared here yet.” Her playful comment made the hosts laugh.
However, the atmosphere quickly turned emotional when a surprise interview video featuring Jeongyeon appeared. Fighting back tears, Jeongyeon shared how much her older sister helped her during one of the most difficult periods of her life.
“It was a mentally difficult time for me. My sister held onto me and took me to the hospital,” Jeongyeon said emotionally.
Jeongyeon previously faced serious health struggles in 2020 while receiving treatment for a neck disc injury. After taking steroids during the treatment process, she reportedly experienced side effects including Cushing syndrome symptoms and rapid weight gain. She later paused activities multiple times due to anxiety and panic-related symptoms before gradually returning to promotions in healthier condition.
The preview also highlighted Gong Seung Yeon’s own difficult journey before success. Before debuting as an actress, she spent seven years as a trainee under SM Entertainment but ultimately left the company without debuting.
Reflecting on that uncertain period, Gong Seung Yeon shared, “I was anxious and completely lost at the time.” She also recalled her mother telling her, “I hoped the eldest daughter would succeed first and help guide the younger siblings.”
After enduring years of lesser-known roles, Gong Seung Yeon recently gained renewed popularity through Perfect Crown, which reportedly reached a peak rating of 13.3%.
She also showed her playful side by joking, “Maybe I should hop on the IU and Byeon Woo Seok train too,” referencing the recent popularity of stars IU and Byeon Woo Seok.
