The chemistry between the two lead actors is absolutely fantastic!
All 10 episodes of the Netflix series Take Charge of My Heart, adapted from the web novel of the same name, were released last Friday (the 9th). Kim Young Kwang stars as Baek Ho-rang, a third-generation chaebol heir facing a critical crisis as the battery in his artificial heart nears depletion. Chae Soo Bin plays Na Bo-bae, a television screenwriter who gained a unique electric discharge ability after being struck by lightning in her childhood. Na Bo-bae encounters Baek Ho-rang—the only person immune to her shocks, earning him the nickname “Human Rubber Glove.” Meanwhile, Baek Ho-rang, whose heart battery ran low following a hospital blackout, discovers that simply staying near Na Bo-bae miraculously recharges his heart.
Following its release, the show sparked lively discussions across social media. Although the premise relies on familiar tropes—and both leads have starred in similar works previously, such as Kim Young Kwang in The Secret Life of My Secretary and Chae Soo Bin in I’m Not a Robot—Take Charge of My Heart creates a fresh spark with electric chemistry between its leads. Even at 167 cm tall, Chae Soo Bin appears delightfully petite standing next to the 190 cm tall Kim Young Kwang. Driven by the plot, the series features numerous hand-holding and hugging scenes that feel sweet without being overwhelming, keeping audiences hooked episode after episode.
The behind-the-scenes footage offers even more moments that will leave viewers grinning from ear to ear. Kim Young Kwang once confessed to having a “romance allergy,” cringing after filming particularly sweet moments. However, Chae Soo Bin matched his energy effortlessly, and the moment the director yelled “CUT,” both actors would often end up laughing in each other’s arms.
During Ho-rang’s birthday scene, the thoughtful Bo-bae buys a slice of cake to celebrate and even sings to him! During rehearsals, Kim Young Kwang shook his head while listening, playfully protesting, “I don’t want to listen!”—appearing thoroughly unused to such sweetness, though he ultimately executed the scene flawlessly.
In another scene where Ho-rang and Bo-bae hide inside a conference room, the two actors can be seen brainstorming ad-libs together, with Chae Soo Bin constantly encouraging him: “Nice, nice! You did great, oppa!” Meanwhile, during the filming of a cameo scene involving Eun-ho for Bo-bae’s drama, Bo-bae and Ho-rang watch the monitor together, letting loose with bright, genuine laughter.
Additionally, a personal favorite line from the show reads: “Even a humble piece of straw can save a life.” Ho-rang and Bo-bae truly represent a story of mutual salvation: Bo-bae recharges Ho-rang’s heart to sustain his physical life, while Ho-rang recharges Bo-bae’s passion for romance to sustain her career as a writer. As they gradually get to know one another, Bo-bae discovers that Ho-rang is not as cold as his exterior suggests, while Ho-rang finds himself drawn to Bo-bae’s refreshing sincerity. Even with classic storylines and familiar formulas, it remains a thoroughly enjoyable watch!
With several new series premiering recently, which ones have you been watching? During this seasonal transition, when many might feel a bit melancholic or low on energy, tuning into Take Charge of My Heart might just bring you laughter and warmth! Wishing Ho-rang and Bo-bae everlasting happiness~
