Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon will reveal the group’s dorm, where she has lived for nearly 19 years since her debut. Even after all the other members moved out to their own homes, Hyoyeon has continued living there alone. The upcoming episode will also feature the special bond she shares with the dorm’s longtime housekeeper.

The preview for next week’s episode of MBC’s Omniscient Interfering View, which aired on August 29, offered a glimpse into Hyoyeon’s daily life. Viewers naturally became curious about why she continues to live in the dorm by herself long after her groupmates relocated.
Ahead of her debut appearance on Omniscient Interfering View, Hyoyeon shared her fellow members’ funny reactions. She recalled, “Sooyoung said, ‘That’s a show where super famous people appear. Why are you going on it?’ So I just told her, ‘You’re being ridiculous,’” drawing laughter from the set.

Just as notable as her long-term dorm life is Hyoyeon’s deep relationship with the dorm’s housekeeper. The two first met when Hyoyeon was in high school and have stayed together for 21 years. Expressing her profound affection, the housekeeper remarked, “She’s like a daughter to me. The day she leaves will be the day I retire, too.”
Hyoyeon has previously shared her reasons for staying in the dorm on several occasions. Appearing on JTBC’s Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, she explained that although her family home is in Songdo, staying at the dorm makes managing her daily work schedule far easier. Describing it as a “comfortable sanctuary,” she added, “They always make sure I have plenty of food. There’s really no better place than this.”

She shared a similar sentiment on the YouTube show Halmyungsoo. Hyoyeon mentioned that the biggest advantages of dorm life are comfortable rest and home-cooked meals. She also offered a practical financial reason: “I believe saving money is the ultimate key to survival.” Hyoyeon elaborated, “When I first signed with SM Entertainment, they promised to look after me like a ‘second mother,’ and they continue to do so today. That’s why I want to stay.” She also candidly admitted, “Sometimes, during periods when I don’t have much active income, I wonder if I should really still be living here,” sharing her honest thoughts on her unique living arrangement.
Hyoyeon, born in 1989, debuted with Girls’ Generation in 2007. The legendary group went on to achieve massive global success with iconic hits like “Into the New World,” “Gee,” and “Genie.” Nearly 19 years into her career, Hyoyeon remains active as both a solo artist and a prominent television personality. Recently, she formed a new unit, “HyoRiSoo,” alongside fellow Girls’ Generation members Yuri and Sooyoung. The trio will release their first digital single, “Skibidi,” at 6 p.m. on August 31 to launch their new project.
MBC’s Omniscient Interfering View will fully reveal Hyoyeon’s life in the iconic group dorm, along with behind-the-scenes stories of HyoRiSoo’s debut, on September 5 at 11:10 p.m. KST.
