Jennie reinterpreted this archival aesthetic by wearing a beret, an oversized denim vest, and low-rise baggy jeans. Furthermore, the outfit featured 1990s-inspired sagging fashion, which exposed her underwear waistband. In addition, she wore a recycled denim mini dress made from jean waistbands, belt loops, and an archival leather belt.
Thanks to her bold style, Jennie delivered an energetic performance at the festival. As a result, the large crowd responded with massive enthusiasm.
However, a controversial performance video surfaced on social media that same day. In the footage, a brief exposure moment allegedly appeared while she danced. Consequently, the video surpassed 12.5 million views within 12 hours. Moreover, it was shared over 9,000 times and quickly sparked intense online debate.
Because of the clip, many international users expressed shock and questioned the video’s authenticity. For instance, comments included: “It’s not real, right?”, “This is fake. Someone edited the video,” and “Can someone please explain what’s going on?” Meanwhile, others urged users to stop spreading it, saying, “Please take the video down. Have some respect for Jennie.”
Although some users posted sexually harassing comments, others quickly pushed back. In fact, fans demanded restraint and criticised the lack of decency, prompting online communities to police inappropriate behaviour.
Currently, it remains unconfirmed whether the footage was digitally manipulated. Nevertheless, if proven to be an AI-generated fake, those who created and shared it could face severe legal consequences.
According to Korea’s Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (Article 14-2), editing or synthesizing a person’s body into sexually suggestive material against their will is punishable by law.
Therefore, distributing such fabricated material for profit carries a prison sentence of up to seven years. Additionally, following 2024 law amendments, even possessing or viewing these fake materials can lead to criminal penalties.
