aespa members Ningning and Giselle have shared the backstory behind their new matching navel piercings.
On the 30th of last month, a video titled “[R(ae)cord] Chobaz’s Friendship Piercing Story | aespa ‘LEMONADE’ Music Show Behind the Scenes” was uploaded to Aespa’s official YouTube channel.
In the video, Giselle revealed their new look, stating, “We got navel piercings together.”
Ningning shared that it was a spontaneous decision, saying, “I just did it on the spot.” Giselle agreed, explaining, “I just got it done a few days ago while shopping on my day off.”
Giselle then opened up about what finally motivated her to go through with it. “I’ve wanted to get a belly button piercing for a while, but I was too scared to actually do it,” she admitted. “Then I asked Ning, ‘Do you want to get a piercing?’ and she immediately said, ‘Okay.’ At that moment, I thought, ‘Oh no, what have I gotten myself into?’ But we just walked right over and got it done.”
She added with a laugh, “We decided that whoever lost at rock-paper-scissors would go first, and of course, I lost. So I went first. It actually didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would, and Ning handled it really well too.”
However, Giselle also candidly shared some of the discomforts that followed. “Yesterday, our stage outfits were uniforms, and the fabric kept rubbing against the piercing,” she revealed, drawing laughter from the staff. “It hurt a lot during rehearsal, so I actually had to take it out before performing.”
Meanwhile, aespa released their second full-length album, ‘LEMONADE’, on May 29. The album features a total of 10 tracks spanning various genres—including dance, rock, hyper-pop, medium-tempo R&B, and pop-rock—led by the title track of the same name and the pre-release single ‘WDA (Whole Different Animal)’ featuring G-DRAGON.
