Actress Moon Chae-won, who is set to marry in two months, directly refuted hygiene rumors that have followed her for over a decade immediately after opening her YouTube channel.
On the 8th, Moon Chae-won launched her YouTube channel “문채원 Moon chaewon” and released her first video. Titled “Rumors, Updates, and Marriage Stories,” the video placed the clarification of the rumors front and center right from the start.
The hygiene-related rumors surrounding Moon Chae-won first ignited in 2015 on Channel A’s variety show “Brave Reporters” when a reporter referred to her as a “dirty innocent actress.” The rumors spread uncontrollably after a YouTube channel uploaded a video in 2021 claiming that “her school uniform was covered in dandruff and her bad breath was so severe during a kiss scene that her co-star suffered greatly.” At one point, searching for Moon Chae-won on search engines would even bring up related search terms such as “bad breath,” “dandruff,” and “abyss.” In response, her agency filed a lawsuit for defamation in 2023 and subsequently sued 14 additional malicious commenters, stating a firm stance that “there will be no settlement or leniency.”
On this day, Moon Chae-won did not stop at merely offering verbal clarification. Regarding the rumor that she does not wash her hair, she refuted it by saying, “I get my hair and makeup done before going to the filming set, so I can’t go without washing my hair.” She then took out a scalp measuring device to personally check the condition of her scalp. Following this, she even measured her bad breath using a breath odor meter. When the result came back as “0,” she said, “I didn’t expect a 0. It makes me tear up. I’m relieved that it came back as 0 for the second time.”
Regarding the origin of the rumor, she explained, “Reporters mentioned on a program discussing entertainment industry rumors that there was an actress synonymous with innocence who fit that description. Since I was very active at the time, they must have thought it was me.” Regarding the reason for moving up the timing of the channel’s launch, she stated, “I had planned to open it when marriage news arose, but I wanted to communicate with fans and get a feel for it in advance.” She also mentioned that she woke up at 2:30 AM and 4:30 AM the night before due to nervousness.
Meanwhile, Moon Chae-won is set to marry a non-celebrity fiancé this coming June. Her agency, Blitzway Entertainment, announced, “The wedding ceremony is scheduled to be held privately with family and close relatives in attendance.”
