After facing controversy and taking an extended hiatus, actor Yoo Ah-in has officially confirmed his return to the big screen in the feature film Vampire. Specifically, this project marks his formal return to the entertainment industry after three years away.
Recently, NEXT ENTERTAINMENT WORLD (NEW), the film’s investor and distributor, released photos from the first script reading for Vampire. In addition, the photo set reveals Yoo Ah-in alongside an impressive ensemble cast. For instance, the lineup includes Lee Sung-min, Lee Joon-hyuk, Yoon Kyung-ho, Choi Hyun-wook, and rising newcomer Kim Do-yi.
Vampire is a highly anticipated project helmed by Director Jang Jae-hyun, who pioneered new boundaries in South Korean K-Occult cinema through masterpieces such as The Priests and Svaha: The Sixth Finger. Furthermore, he directed the recent box-office sensation Exhuma. In terms of plot, this supernatural action thriller follows an anonymous hitman hired by a priest to track down a mysterious rogue cult.
In this film, Yoo Ah-in takes on the central role of the hitman. Initially, his character appears cold and completely emotionless; however, he gradually transforms as he confronts supernatural phenomena. Because Yoo Ah-in is known for delivering nuanced and powerful performances, fans are eager to see how he approaches this intense role.
Along with Yoo Ah-in, the movie features a formidable supporting cast to create strong onscreen dynamic. First, Lee Sung-min plays the priest, while Lee Joon-hyuk undergoes a dramatic transformation as a cult member. Meanwhile, newcomer Kim Do-yi takes on a pivotal role after surviving an intense audition process. Additionally, Yoon Kyung-ho plays a contraband broker, and Choi Hyun-wook appears as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Finally, principal photography for Vampire will begin in August, and the film is slated for a theatrical release in 2028.
